Sterling, Aaron, and Tina
I come from a long line of farmers, although my dad was the first of his generation to own farmland and my mom’s family quit farming for a generation. My husband’s father also grew up on a farm so we both have farming in our blood. My parents tried to run a farm with an Orchard, Chickens, Ducks, Geese, Goats, Vegetable Garden, and a Tree farm but their success was limited. As my mom and I have discovered in recent years the problem with the farm was not the effort put in but the land itself. You see as we have discovered, like many farmers all over the world, a gross amount of farmers went to “Modern Farming Techniques” which included using vast amounts of chemical fertilizer, pest control, and weed control.
Over the past few decades, research has shown that all of these chemicals actually kill the land as much or more than over-farming the land. So after giving up for a few years and with a new sense of urgency to provide a lasting and reliable of source of organic foods for our families, my mom and I have re-initiated our efforts to learn about regenerative farming and herbalism. We have learned so much already and there is still so much more to learn. Throughout our research we have talked about how much knowledge is hidden from the general population regarding organic gardening and real sustainability that we wanted to help disseminate to our area.
So with this in mind we wanted to create a community in the upstate, primarily South Carolina which is lacking in a gardening community, for gardeners to learn with us and grow a more beautiful and healthy garden and life. We hope you find inspiration and knowledge to achieve your dreams of a wonderful garden and home here.
